Our goal is to offer wholesome meal plans with mainly fresh foods. For convenience and taste, we include nutrient-rich frozen and minimally-processed foods and occasionally small amounts of packaged snack foods. We often offer a fresh alternative when packaged foods are included.
Our nutrition guidelines have been developed by a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and adapted from recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
Our meal plans are taste-tested by kids and adults. Do the kids eat everything they taste? Of course not! Do they like things we aren't sure they will? Absolutely. Check out our sample meals below.

After spending more than a decade climbing the corporate ladder, balancing the demands of work and family stopped Lauren in her tracks. She left the corporate world to focus on building a more balanced and fulfilling life. Looking at the demands she was facing as a parent, Lauren kept coming back to the dilemma of what to feed her kids each day. By launching Lunch Unpacked, Lauren wants to make preparing healthy lunches a fast and convenient part of every family's routine.
Jackie is a classically-trained chef, registered dietitian nutritionist, award-winning cookbook author, recipe developer, and media personality. She's the author of several cookbooks, a healthy cooking instructor at the Institute for Culinary Education, and a food writer. Jackie has made guest appearances on dozens of television news shows. For nearly a decade, Jackie was a consultant for "Healthy Children Healthy Futures," a national after-school nutrition and fitness program designed for city kids and parents.
